As I watch the show Entourage; I begin to see a change in how society used to view women; or how we’ve become more body positive. Entourage came out around 2004, which was over a decade ago and I was pretty young back then: so my interests where more on toys and crayons. So it’s interesting to view the world before the Kardashians. As you watch the show, you start to see what society viewed as sexy and how incredibly different (in my opinion) it is from today. Let’s contrast the body type that we find “sexy” from over a decade ago. We value more of Kim K’s body today, while back then it was much thinner and the “slim thick” body, “thicker than a snicker” didn’t even come to play. Those with more a volumptrous body, would be considered fat.
This makes me think, have we become more open minded? Has social media, memes and the “love who you are” movement made a change in way we view our women? Or are we just following social norms and doing everything we can to conform to it? We may have more leeway to be bit thicker, but where does the naturally skinny go? Or when you’re not considered”thick” and you have a little more chub than booty. What happens then?
What do you guys think about today’s beauty standards? Have we changed at all?
